On January 25, The New York Times endorsed Senator Hillary Clinton. At the time, the 1,100-word editorial stood out for both its tepidness and early appearance, coming near the front-end of the primary season. According to Times sources, the paper almost didn't back Clinton. The divisions within the Gray Lady's editorial board mirrored the deep divide that has split Democrats.

Rachel Sklar: Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have signed with Penguin Young Readers to write a new book, with the working title Influence, introducing them to the towering figures that have influenced the "Business Women, Designers and Global Style Icons." Don't look for Margaret Thatcher or Golda Meir here, though these are more the folks you'd find on PatrickMcMullan.
Newsday and Car Dealers Settle Ad Case (Newsday)
More than 40 regional car dealers who in 2004 sued Newsday on fraud and antitrust charges tied to the newspaper's circulation improprieties settled the class-action case this week, a lawyer for the dealers said Wednesday. Terms of the settlement were not disclosed.
Gannett Picks New Head for Newspaper Group (Bloomberg)
Gannett Co., the owner of USA Today, named Robert J. Dickey president of its newspaper division, succeeding Sue Clark-Johnson, who is retiring. Dickey, 50, was a senior group president of Gannett's Pacific Group and chairman of Phoenix Newspapers Inc., the McLean, Virginia-based company said today in a statement. Gannett is the largest U.S. newspaper publisher.
