p6111111a.jpgRachael Ray Cooking Show to Be Axed? (Page Six)
Rachael Ray may find herself with some extra time on her hands. Insiders say the demanding TV cook's syndicated daytime show, Rachael Ray, carried here on WABC/Channel 7, will be getting the ax at the end of her contract. An impeccable TV source said, "They are seriously talking about taking her off the air."

Hulu Is a Good Site For Online Shows, But Fare Is Thin (WSJ)
Walter Mossberg: I've been testing Hulu, and I am very impressed with its design and ease of use, and with the fact that it allows users to edit and re-publish its content on their own sites. Despite some drawbacks, it's the first Web property I've seen from mainstream studios or networks that shows a real understanding of both modern Web design and the Internet's culture of sharing.

CW Plots 90210 Spinoff (Hollywood Reporter)
The most popular ZIP code on television is coming back. The CW is developing a contemporary spinoff of Aaron Spelling's seminal 1990s teen soap Beverly Hills, 90210. Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas is in talks to pen the project, which has been put on the fast track by the network.

AOL to Acquire Social Media Network Bebo (AOL)
AOL has entered into an agreement to acquire Bebo, a leading global social media network. Founded in 2005, Bebo now has 40 million members worldwide. Together with AIM and ICQ, AOL will have a social network of approximately 80 million unique users worldwide.

CNN Launches Consumer Generated News Site (Beet.TV)
Long providing an opportunity for viewers to send in videos, text messages, camera phone videos, comments and photos through an area called iReport, CNN.com has launched a true consumer generated news portal. It has its own url as ireport.com. CNN.com had 37.5 million unique visitors in February.

The Case for Protecting Journalists (LAT)
Editorial: A federal appeals court has come to the rescue of a journalist who faced financial ruin if she continued to shield her confidential sources from a scientist suing the federal government. That's good news. But the only reliable protection for reporters who rely (usually reluctantly) on anonymous sources is a federal reporter's privilege similar to those in two-thirds of the states.

Armani's Times Critic Ban (NYT)
Cathy Horyn: The subject of banning journalists from fashion shows seems as quaint as the practice itself, neither a commendation to the industry nor a badge of honor to the critic. Indeed, fashion is the only creative field that attempts to bar the news media.

DirecTV to Start On-Demand (WSJ)
In its yearslong battle with cable-TV operators, DirecTV Group Inc.'s Achilles' heel has been its inability to offer any sort of video-on-demand service. The company intends to change that. The No. 1 satellite-TV provider by subscribers is testing its own version of an on-demand movies and television service that it plans to launch in the second quarter.
