Newspaper publisher New York Times Co. is scheduled to report its first-quarter earnings before the stock market opens Thursday. The Times Co.'s results for the January-March period are expected to show a less severe drop than in the final three months of last year when ad revenue fell 15 percent.

Independent Examiner OK'd In Tribune Co. Bankruptcy (Chicago Tribune)
Tribune Co. and its creditors have agreed to accept the appointment of an independent bankruptcy examiner in the Chapter 11 case, opening the door to further scrutiny of Tribune Co. chairman Sam Zell's 2007 leveraged buyout of the Chicago-based media conglomerate.

Financial Times Appoints Caroline Daniel Editor Of FT Weekend (FishbowlNY)
The Financial Times has appointed Caroline Daniel as the publication's new FT Weekend editor. Daniel will take on her new duties beginning on June 1 in addition to her current duties as assistant editor. Andy Davis, FT Weekend's former editor, is "currently exploring new opportunities at the FT."
