Colbert, will.i.am Among Special Webby Award Recipients (AP)
Stephen Colbert's use of the Internet to connect with fans earned the Comedy Central host special recognition as recipients of the annual Webby awards for Web sites and online achievements were announced Tuesday. A special achievement award also went to will.i.am, the Black Eyed Peas frontman behind the popular "Yes We Can" video supporting presidential candidate Barack Obama.
NBC Super Bowl Ads to Cost $3 Million (WSJ)
The Super Bowl has always been a tough ticket, but now NBC is telling advertisers it will cost them $3 million just to get into the game for 30 seconds. NBC Universal plans to announce next week that $3 million will be the entry price for a commercial at the 2009 Super Bowl. While individual slots have sold at that level before, it's never been the starting point for negotiations.
Economist Raps Up Youth Market (Guardian)
The Economist's bid to appeal to more youthful readers seems to be paying off after two 17-year-olds created a rap about the business title, while a Facebook fan group created by a teenage schoolgirl has enjoyed a surge in popularity. The rap, created by students Ike Edgerton and Chris Misa under the name Psikotic, is a tribute that includes samples of Economist journalists from the title's audio podcasts.
Obama/Russert Outdraw Clinton/Stephanopoulos on Sunday (NYT/The Caucus)
Senator Barack Obama and his interviewer on Meet the Press, Tim Russert, were a much bigger draw in Indianapolis on Sunday than were Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton and her interviewer on This Week, George Stephanopoulos. According to data from Nielsen, Meet the Press, on NBC, was viewed in 91,000 households. This Week, on ABC, was watched in 14,000 households.
Survey: Newspapers Likely To Be Free in the Future (Reuters)
Newspapers seeking to compete with the Internet are likely to become free and place greater emphasis on comment and opinion in the future, a survey of the world's editors showed on Tuesday. The report, conducted by Zogby International for the World Editors Forum and Reuters, revealed that newspaper editors were still optimistic about the future of their publications but believed they would have to adapt further for the digital age.
