Thirteen Months After Murdoch: The WSJ Diaspora (NYO)
Who's leaving The Journal now? Some of these moves happened directly because of Rupert Murdoch they were pushed out by him, or staffers found him objectionable and left some just happened for reasons unrelated. But it's fair to say The Journal hasn't experienced anything quite like this, well, ever. It's time for a roll call.
USA Network Promotes Jane Blaney (Variety)
USA Network has promoted Jane Blaney to executive VP of programming, acquisitions & scheduling. Bonnie Hammer, president of cable entertainment and cable studios for NBC Universal, said Blaney deserves lots of credit for USA's position as the highest-rated ad-supported cable network for the past two-and-a-half years.
Asman Re-Upped at FBN (TVNewser)
Fox Business Network anchor David Asman has re-signed with the network in a multi-year deal. Asman will continue co-anchoring Fox Business and Bulls & Bears with Liz Claman, as well as hosting America's Nightly Scoreboard. Asman will continue anchoring Forbes on FOX on Fox News' Saturday business block as well.
Name-Dropping in the NYT: Jay Z? Shawn Carter? Mr. Z? (CJR)
At the Times, the penalty for being a rapper is twofold: you are routinely called out on your birth name (no matter how nerdy and ironic it might be), and you rarely are addressed as "Mr." This nominal double standard surfaces from time to time in hip-hop articles throughout the mainstream press, but due to the Times' extensive urban-music coverage and its eternal struggle with honorific conformity, rap handles seem to inspire more copy dilemmas there.
Time Inc. Ad Network Adds New Titles (Folio:)
Wenner Media's Men's Journal and Dennis Publishing's The Week have joined the Time Inc.-owned advertising network Media Networks Inc., the company announced this week. Time Inc.'s Entertainment Weekly and People were also added. That a publishing company like Time Inc. would cross the aisle to include non-Time Inc. titles is unusual but not unprecedented.
