Heigl on the Way Out at Grey's Anatomy? (E!)
The latest buzz hissing from the set of the ABC hit is that creator Shonda Rhimes may be entertaining the idea of killing off Katherine Heigl's Dr. Isobel "Izzie" Stevens because of the now infamous remarks Heigl made about the upcoming Emmys. Heigl took herself out of the running for this year's Emmy race because she felt the writers failed to give her enough good material to work with last season.
The Winners and Losers of Angelina Jolie's Pregnancy Saga (Jossip)
Now that Angelina finally gave birth, the matter of her pregnancy is all over with. And before we even get to figuring out which tabloid is spending the GDP of some small nations on scoring the first exclusive pictures of Knox and Vivienne (we suggest they split the two up, and sell each kid to separate magazines), there's another matter to clear up. Namely, who actually was on their game with this Brangelina birthing business, and which media outlets were merely along for the ride.
Is the Post-Russert Commentariat Any More Powerful? (New York)
Kurt Anderson: For all the new pundits, my hunch is that the commentariat possesses no more aggregate power than it did in the past. Instead, the same pie has been cut into smaller slices, with many more people scrambling to claim their little piece of visibility and influence. Which amps up the musical-chairs madness, the jostling among columnists, bloggers, commentators, interviewers, anchors, and reporters to be seen and heard amid the glut.
Is Fournier saving or destroying the AP? (Politico)
Ron Fournier says he regards Sandy Johnson, his predecessor as head of the Associated Press's Washington bureau, as "a mentor." Johnson, though, regards Fournier, who replaced her in a hard-feelings shake-up in May, as a threat to one of the most influential institutions in American journalism. "I loved the Washington bureau," said Johnson. "I just hope he doesn't destroy it."
Material Girl Uses A-Rod for Media Makeover? (AdAge)
Bonnie Fuller: I've always believed that all human beings -- male and female -- are born with a gossip gene. And when there's a real-life story or situation that is far better than fiction, whether it's the Brad-Angie-and-Jen triangle or the Madonna-Alex-Cynthia-Guy quadrangle, the need to know overrides what lesser marketers than Madonna might not understand.
