New York Times Company Could Name CEO by September (FishbowlNY)
The New York Times Company released its 2Q report this morning, and buried among the bad news -- the company posted a loss again, down $88 million because of decreasing ad dollars -- was a small note about that CEO search: "A person familiar with the company's thinking, who could not discuss private meetings publicly, said the board had made significant progress on the chief executive search and could announce a successor as early as September."

Joe Paterno Book Couldn't Come At A Worse Time (GalleyCat)
The Simon & Schuster book Paterno, which is slated for release in August, claims to get "inside the mind of one of America's most brilliant and charismatic coaches." Not exactly, the angle people want to read, at a time when Penn State is taking down a statue of the once revered coach whose legacy is tainted by the Jerry Sandusky sex abuse scandal. NYT Simon & Schuster moved up the release date of the Paterno book from Father's Day 2013 to August 2012. The title was changed from The Grand Experiment: The Life and Meaning of Joe Paterno, to the more neutral Paterno.

Congressman Asks SOPA Opponents to Help Draft Mobile Privacy Law (10000Words)
Representative Hank Johnson of Georgia has turned to the Reddit community for input on how to create mobile privacy legislation. He announced his AppRights.us initiative on Reddit yesterday, saying, "It's an open, bottom-up approach to drafting legislation that will protect the privacy of mobile device users." Hoping to engage the technology community after the SOPA/PIPA debacle, Johnson is inviting netizens to share their thoughts on the AppRights website and through discussion on Reddit.
