Couric's in Her Comfort Zone at the DNC (WaPo)
The freewheeling nature of covering the Democratic convention plays to Katie Couric's strengths in a way that a tightly scripted 22-minute newscast does not. She is, suddenly, the "Today" show Katie, fun-loving and wisecracking, not the more sober figure who has drawn mixed reviews in her nearly two years behind the anchor desk. "I feel weirdly more comfortable and relaxed when I'm out of the studio," she says.
Steve Jobs's Obituary, As Run By Bloomberg (Gawker)
The Bloomberg financial newswire decided to update its 17-page Steve Jobs obituary today -- and inadvertently published it in the process. Some investors were undoubtedly rattled to see, as our tipster did late this afternoon, the Apple CEO's obit cross the wire and then suddenly disappear.
Kristof: I Owe Anthrax Suspect an Apology (NYT)
Nicholas Kristof: Dr. Steven Hatfill sued me and The New York Times, along with others in the news media and the Justice Department. His suit against me and the Times was dismissed, yet even if I don't have a legal obligation, I do feel a moral one to express regret for any added distress from my columns.
Meet Obama's Media Enforcer (WSJ)
As the Obama campaign enters a crucial phase, beset by tightened polling numbers and the prospect of a tough race for the next two months, Robert Gibbs has emerged as Sen. Obama's advocate-in-chief with the media, and therefore the voters. The 37-year-old is in charge of shaping his message, responding to the 24/7 news cycle, schmoozing with the press, and fighting back when he disagrees with its reporting.
