90210-b.jpgBig Debut for 90210 (NYT/TV Decoder)
The reincarnated version of the 1990s series Beverly Hills: 90210, made an impressive debut in the ratings on Tuesday, setting a record as the highest rated premiere in the CW network's 2-year history. Although the two-hour episode earned a modest 4.9 million viewers, 90210 finished very close behind among adults 18 to 49 while leading by a wide margin in the 18-to-34 demographic.

Esquire at 75 (Forbes)
Don't tell Esquire's editor, David Granger, magazines are dying, dull, or boring. "I completely reject that idea," he said. "Some of the best magazine journalism I know of is running right now in Esquire and The New Yorker and New York magazine and a lot of others. Cincinnati has a great [local] magazine, and there's a new one in Denver called 5280, for the city's altitude in feet, and there are plenty more."

NYO Planning New Glossy (WWD)
The Wall Street Journal isn't the only broadsheet getting into the magazine game. The New York Observer is poised to toss a new fashion title atop the mounting pile. Jared Kushner, who bought the Observer from Arthur Carter in July 2006, is entering the fashion publishing stakes with Observer Style, a semiannual magazine due to make its debut Nov. 16 and focused on the local fashion scene.

CNBC Socializes With LinkedIn (Wired/Epicenter)
The business news channel, CNBC, announced Wednesday that they would be forming a "strategic alliance" with the professional networking site LinkedIn. Under the new partnership CNBC content will be integrated into the social network, including articles, blogs, financial data and videos. The LinkedIn networking functionality will also be added to the CNBC website and user generated content will be broadcast on CNBC programs.

2 More Journalists Are Attacked in Caucasus (NYT)
A television reporter was mortally wounded and a newspaper editor was severely beaten Tuesday in Russia's north Caucasus region, bringing to three the number of attacks on journalists this week in the volatile area. The assaults followed the killing on Sunday in nearby Ingushetia of Magomed Yevloyev, a journalist and prominent critic of Ingushetia's president.

Blurring of Journalism Lines in Palin Story Hurts Public (LAT)
Palin proved herself no weakling Wednesday night, offering up "those reporters and commentators" who doubt her as unworthy of her attention. This cynical approach says it's just fine to ignore the question if your answer won't cut it. Just demonize the questioner and move on. But most real reporters -- and their audiences, filled with real people -- deserve better. Politico: Should the media have to apologize for doing its job, asks Roger Simon.
