446px-Uncle_Sam_pointing_finger.jpgU.S. Military Inadvertently Recruits on Gay Web Site (USAT)
The Army, Navy and Air Force unwittingly advertised for recruits on a Web site for gays, who are barred from military service if they are open about their sexual orientation. When informed Tuesday that they were advertising on GLEE.com, a networking Web site for gay professionals, recruiters expressed surprise and said they would remove the job listings.

Apatow Joins 'Funny or Die' as Partner (Hollywood Reporter)
Fresh off his hit summer films Superbad and Knocked Up, Apatow will join Will Ferrell and Adam McKay as a contributor and investor to the Web site. The trio is at work on Sony's Step Brothers. FunnyOrDie.com has worked with Apatow onscreen; he played himself in clips purporting to feature behind-the-scenes conflicts on the set of Knocked Up, in which Apatow berates a series of uncooperative actors.

Jerry Byrne and the Quill Awards (Forbes)
James Brady: Next week, ex-Variety publisher Jerry Byrne puts on the third-annual Quill Awards with Today's Al Roker and Ann Curry hosting, Stephen Colbert of Comedy Central opening and an A-list of celebrities presenting as a score of authors are honored — Al Gore and former Time magazine managing editor Walter Isaacson among them.

ESPN, Nielsen Take Step Toward 'Total Audience' Measurement (AdAge)
Hoping to help TV advertisers understand how commercials on TV and various digital platforms drive consumer behavior and marketing results, the two parties are working to develop a new audience-measurement model that will stretch across online, mobile and other emerging media.

CW Cancels Online Nation (Variety)
The CW has logged off Online Nation. The low-rated show, which featured clips from the Internet, has been permanently killed by the net, which will air repeats of Aliens in America in the 7:30 p.m. slot starting Sunday. The nixing of Online Nation marks the season's first no-caveat-attached cancellation.

Social Networking and Email Begin to Intersect (WSJ)
Email providers are trying to steal some of social networking's thunder as fast-growing services like Facebook Inc. begin to encroach on their turf. The biggest Web email services are adding features that allow users to perform such sociable functions as tracking friends and creating personal profile pages for others to see. And social networks like Facebook have upgraded their messaging services with new features.
