Scott McClellan, the White House press secretary, was battered at his daily news briefing by journalists demanding answers as to why Mr. Cheney had not been faster to make public what happened and why he had chosen a local newspaper in Texas as his vehicle for doing so. WaPo: As hunting accident become fodder for jokes, press criticism of the administration's response heats up.

NYT, WaPo Invite Readers Into Email Coversation (E&P)
Last week, the Washington Post began hyperlinking bylines on washingtonpost.com to e-mail forms. Today, NYTimes.com will institute a similar feature, designed to provide readers with greater access to reporters and columnists without burdening staff with massive amounts of spam e-mails.

Eisner Tried to Scuttle Disney/Pixar Deal (NYP)
Former Disney boss Michael Eisner, who officially left the company last fall, contacted board members to lobby against approving the deal — suggesting that, even after being pushed out of the company, Eisner is having a tough time letting go his grip on power.

Miller, Fitzgerald Face Off Again (NY Sun)
Journalist Judith Miller and U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald squared off in court again yesterday, with a lot less public attention than last year, when the dogged special prosecutor had the then-New York Times reporter jailed for 85 days to force her to disclose the identity of an anonymous source.

Knight Ridder Scrambles to Assemble Panel to Evaluate Buyers (San Jose Mercury News)
A provision in Knight Ridder's articles of incorporation mandates that unless the board of directors determines a new owner would continue the company's "journalistic excellence," the buyer must win 80 percent of shareholders' votes for a sale to be approved.

Yahoo Calls on Nations to Stop Web Censorship (Bloomberg via LAT)
Yahoo will work with other companies, governments, academia and nongovernmental organizations to develop policies for working in countries where content is more restricted than in the U.S., according to a company statement.

Iraq War Continues on, Unreported (Center for American Progress)
Eric Alterman: Obviously, stories are still coming out of Iraq, but as more reporters leave, as they did en masse after the November 2005 bombing of the al-Hamra Hotel in Baghdad (one of the most popular among western reporters), the quantity of the coverage has decreased. NYT: Report finds Iraq is deadliest place in the world for journalists.

Mass Appeal Celebrates Ten-Year Anniversary, Launches Spinoff (Folio:)
The bimonthly popular with the much-sought-after — and equally misunderstood — male-dominated urban hip-hop community, is marking its 10th anniversary in the magazine game with the launch of Missbehave, a title targeting the young female section of the market.

If You've Seen One Storm... (WWD)
For more than 30 years, Robert McFadden, a senior writer at The New York Times, has been the paper's go-to guy for page-one stories about severe weather. But a perusal of his clips suggests that his appreciation of nature's fury is, if not canned, at least remarkably changeless.

Raindrops on Roses and Whiskers on Kittens... (Ad Age)
Simon Dumenco: Lately I've gotten e-mail from readers suggesting that I'm the Angriest Media Guy in the World, given my recent columns. But really, I'm not! Some things — even some things in the media world — make me happy. Honest! So, this week, praise for some Simple Media Pleasures.

Greenspan May Snag Millions for Memoir (Reuters)
Alan Greenspan is in talks with major publishers about writing a memoir, which could net the Delphic former central banker a hefty sum. Greenspan is represented by Washington-based lawyer Robert Barnett, who negotiated an $8 million advance for U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton with Simon & Schuster.

Reporters Have Tricky Time Covering WWE's Vince McMahon Scandal (Long Island Press)
"The problem is that too many reporters in the mainstream media treat wrestling as a joke and therefore don't fact-check the way that they would for what they consider a 'real' story," maintains Dave Scherer, a reporter and editor with the Pro Wrestling Insider website.
