r159716_582871.jpgGoogle Paid Clicks Data Generates Debate (AP)
New data confirming slowing growth in Google Inc.'s paid clicks renewed debate Thursday on Wall Street over whether the Internet search company's revenue can quickly adjust to changes it made in how it generates clicks. Citing data that comScore Inc. released after the market closed on Wednesday, analysts said growth in Google's click-through rate has nearly ground to a halt.

Did NYT Argentina Story Lift Material From Newsweek? (FishbowlNY)
An Argentinean blogger says Denny Lee, the Travel and Escapes editor of The New York Times, stole the bulk of a recent story from Newsweek. In a long, well-researched piece, Taos Turner of the Argentine Post alleges that Lee recycled significant material from a year-old Newsweek article on Buenos Aires' cultural scene for a recent New York Times story about... Buenos Aires' cultural scene. NYO: The editor of the Times travel section, Stuart Emmrich, writes "There was no plagiarism at work ... There were no fabricated or lifted quotes ... Every person Denny Lee quoted in the piece was the result of either a phone or face-to-face interview."

Viewers watched 222,305,520 total minutes of live streaming video during that period, surpassing the entire 2007 total and amounting to 36 percent year-over-year growth.

LAT Fall on Tupac Story Reveals New Scrutiny of Documents (E&P)
The Los Angeles Times' apparent reliance on fabricated FBI records that wrongly linked rapper Sean Combs to the shooting of Tupac Shakur raises new concerns over using documents from anonymous sources — and posting them online. "You are more vulnerable to your critics, but also more accountable," says the Poynter Institute's Bob Steele. Slate: Jack Shafer on how Chuck Philips and the LA Times could have dodged the Tupac story mess.

More Layoffs at ABC News: 20+ Positions Cut in Reorg (TV Newser)
Following Wednesday's announcement of a reorganization of the operations and finance areas of ABC News, TVNewser has learned as many as 21 jobs have been eliminated. However, insiders tell us a number of new jobs have already been posted, and that those who were cut are being encouraged to apply for the added positions. In the end, the insider figures around 11 jobs will be lost. B&C: Many of those eliminated, ABC News staffers said, have been there for decades.

Time 4 Media Employees Sour on New Swedish Owners (NYP)
A year after Swedish publishing giant Bonnier acquired Time Inc.'s Time 4 Media operation, unrest still reigns among the newcomers. Sources say former Time Inc. employees are still up in arms over the cost-cutting mandates, and many of the big-name editors who moved to Bonnier when the Time 4 Media and Parenting Group were sold by Time Warner to Bonnier for $220 million have since left.

Marash on Why He Quit Al Jazeera's English Channel (NYT)
David Marash, the most prominent American anchor on Al Jazeera English, has quit the 24-hour international news channel, citing an increased level of editorial control exercised by the channel's headquarters in Doha, Qatar. "To put it bluntly, the channel that's on now — while excellent, and I plan to be a lifetime viewer — is not the channel that I signed up to do," Marash said.

BusinessWeek Partners with LinkedIn (Folio:)
On the heels of Fast Company's launch of a social network, BusinessWeek.com has partnered with professional networking site LinkedIn in an effort to expand its own. On BusinessWeek.com, users will be able to view their LinkedIn contacts at companies featured in articles via LinkedIn's Company Insider feature, which launched March 10.

Woman's Day Lays Off Five Staffers (FishbowlNY)
Insiders at Woman's Day confirm that five staffers on the editorial side have been laid off due to "budget reasons." According to a source, editorial coordinator — a 20-year veteran of the mag — Michele Fedele, test kitchen assistant (another longtime staffer) Dionisia (Celia) Colon, and research director Ruth Manuel-Logan, are among those exiting.

Senators, Including Clinton and Obama, Seek to Reverse FCC Ruling (AdAge)
The congressional fight over changes to the Federal Communications Commission's media-ownership rules is headed for its first Senate vote next week. The Senate Commerce Committee yesterday announced that on April 2 it will consider legislation from Sen. Byron Dorgan to overturn the FCC change.

Comcast Relents on Web Video (LAT)
After receiving criticism for allegedly blocking a popular software program for watching video online, Comcast Corp. pledged Thursday not to discriminate against specific technology as it tries to keep increasing amounts of data flowing through its cable networks. But the move may not be enough to keep Comcast, the country's largest cable company, from being disciplined by federal regulators

New Site Airs Homemade Political Ads on TV (The Nation)
Forget the YouTube election. For the first time, Americans can now run their own political advertising campaigns on television, thanks to VoterVoter.com, a new business unit of a major advertising firm. Starting for around $1,000, the site lets people purchase broadcast time in any market across the country, target specific demographics, and choose an ad for their candidate or cause — or even make their own.

Newsday Coulda Been a Contender — But It Missed Its Big Chance Years Ago (BusinessWeek)
Jon Fine: If Newsday were smart and gutsy, it would co-opt any potential online competition by becoming the ad broker to all manner of local sites, blogs and otherwise, selling ads onto them and keeping a cut of each sale — the model made famous by Google. Of course, if Newsday were smart and gutsy, it would be ruling New York, not waiting to be bought for the third time since 2000.

Playboy Edition in Philippines to Target Older Dads (Reuters)
Playboy is launching in the Philippines next month and will be targeting mature men who like well-written articles and tasteful photographs of semi-nude women. "Maxim and FHM are called laddy magazines. We can be called a Dad magazine," Beting Laygo Dolor, Playboy Philippines' editor, said.

Dow Jones Sees Growth in Asia, Online (The Australian)
Les Hinton, the new chief executive of Dow Jones & Co, which owns The Wall Street Journal, expects strong growth for the business in the Asia-Pacific region and says he is increasingly unlikely to make the entire wsj.com Web site free. Hinton also said the Journal has already increased its level of consumer advertising since News Corp. bought the business.
