As Expected, Newspaper Circs Way Down (E&P)
The Newspaper Association of America, a Vienna, Va.-based industry group, reported that average daily paid circulation declined 1.9 percent in the most recent reporting period for the 814 newspapers reporting comparable data to the Audit Bureau of Circulations. NYT: Only three out of 10 newspapers gained in daily circulation, and only one in four papers gained on Sunday. NYDN: News uses circ numbers to boast, bash Post. NYP: Post uses circ numbers to boast, bash News. WaPo: Figures were the first released in the wake of circulation scandals at several major newspapers last year. E&P: Raw numbers from Fas-Fax.

Martha Stewart showed off her lucky shoes—gold clogs, actually—to advertisers Monday as she relaunched her syndicated daytime show. It will be renamed Martha when it premieres nationally on Sept. 12. Mediaweek: New show will combine elements of talk and how-to programming in a mixture of live and taped segments focusing on cooking, gardening, crafts, and home design.

Wintour Streep Tease (Reuters)
Meryl Streep will star in The Devil Wears Prada, the film version of a book written by a former assistant to Vogue editor Anna Wintour. Wintour has never acknowledged that the character Streep will play, a caustic magazine editor named Miranda Priestly, is based on her.


Clear Channel to Spin Off Entertainment Arm (Guardian)
America's largest radio group intends to spin off its entertainment unit into a separate business, a move which will be welcomed by critics in the music industry, who have accused the group of abusing its dominance in the market.

The End of Star Trek (LAT)
