snl112121_logo.jpgNBC, Lorne Michaels Plotting SNL Video Site (B&C)
NBC and Lorne Michaels are in talks to develop a new on-demand video Web site that would feature an array of comedy clips built around Saturday Night Live, according to sources. While the project is still in the early developmental stage, it is believed the site would include a mix of sketches culled from the vast SNL library, as well as dress rehearsal skits that have never aired.

Suddenly, Rivals Want to Jump on Hulu Bandwagon (AdAge)
When NBC Universal and News Corp. announced they were going to launch a video portal, many dismissed the effort. Then a funny thing happened: Two months after Hulu launched in March, it became a top-10 video site. In August, it served more than 122 million TV shows and short clips. Among mainstream-media digital-video efforts, it now trails only Viacom Digital, Disney Online, and Turner Network in ComScore rankings.

Newsweek Eyes Radical Revamp as Business Bleeds (Mediaweek)
A year after taking over as chief executive of Newsweek, Tom Ascheim has started to make his presence felt. Last week, Ascheim took steps to beef up the sales side, hiring a new uber-salesperson and general manager of online. Now, he's scrutinizing the print edition, ordering up secret "fantasy" versions of the pub from editors and outsiders including design guru Roger Black.

Newspapers' Web Revenue Is Stalling (NYT)
In the last few years, newspaper companies have been rapidly expanding their Web presence -- adding blogs, photo slide shows, and podcasts -- in the belief that more features would bring more advertisers. But now, after 17 quarters of ballooning growth, online revenue at newspaper sites is falling. In the second quarter, it was down 2.4 percent compared with last year, to $777 million.

F+W Media Announces Company-Wide Reorganization (Folio:)
F+W Media, the Cincinnati-based enthusiast and hobbyist publisher, has announced a major reorganization that groups its products according to "communities," not by channel. CEO David Nussbaum wrote that there are no immediate plans to fold any of its magazines or lay off any staffers. However, he wrote, each community leader will "determine the best structure for their individual unit."

With New Editor, Vatican Newspaper Is Broader Than Ever (WSJ)
In its 147 years as the Vatican's newspaper of record, L'Osservatore Romano has rarely chased advertisers, or even news. Hard to find beyond the world's smallest state, the Vatican's daily paper largely dedicated its pages to theological monologues with headlines like "The Leprosy of Sin." Those days are over. Now, the Vatican mouthpiece has orders to carry hard-hitting news, international stories and more articles by women.
