Apple Tries To Crowd Google Phone News With App Store Release, News Leaks

mefirst.jpg

Today is Google’s day, although Apple is doing everything it can to rain on its parade. As we countdown to the press conference at 1pm ET where Google is reported to unveil its Nexus One smart phone, Apple put out a release today highlighting more than 3 billion applications have been downloaded from its App Store.

The release included a jabbing quote from Mr. Steve Jobs himself. “Three billion applications downloaded in less than 18 months – this is like nothing we’ve ever seen before…We see no signs of the competition catching up anytime soon,” he said.

In addition, news has leaked about Apple’s tablet and that the company may buy mobile advertising company Quattro Wireless for $275 million. Certainly this is a succession of powerful stories.

Will it have an effect on the Google phone coverage? Likely not, as reporters will have to cover the Google news regardless, but one can’t blame Apple for trying – they have at least crowded the news cycle a bit.
