Obviously, You're Not a Golfer
The number one story on NYTimes.com right now is how the number of golfers in the US is shrinking, while the number of golf courses has been rising. Says PR consultant and New York regional director of the National Golf Course Owners Association Richard Rocchio in the story: Years ago, men thought nothing of spending the whole day playing golf - maybe Saturday and Sunday both. Today, he is driving his kids to their soccer games. Maybe he's playing a round early in the morning. But he has to get back home in time for lunch. With serious water crisis' abound, especially out west, we can't exactly mourn the death of new golf courses around the country. That being said, some course owners are finding an answer by diversifying: "When the ship is sinking, it's time to get creative," said Mr. Hurney, a principal owner of the Great Rock Golf Club in Wading River, which last summer erected a 4,000-square-foot tent for social events, including weddings, christenings and communions. "Getting creative" is at the core of almost any PR pro's job. How would you do it with golf? Email This Post |
