Facebook Founder Chris Hughes to GMMB

Chris Hughes, the Facebook founder who went on to significantly lower salary to spearhead Barack Obama’s online community during the campaign, will join the GMMB media consultancy as a strategic adviser.

GMMB is subsidiary of Fleishman-Hillard that focuses on left-leaning political advocacy and consulting, using PR, media buying & planning, interactive strategy, and design.

According to a text message from Hughes to Valleywag, he might have something interesting up his sleeve regarding part time gig sometime next week.

Valleywag’s Owen Thomas makes an interesting point about Hughes’ sexual orientation. What social networking does best, is aggregate and connect disparate groups of people who have common goals. While also capable of propagating misinformation quickly, the big numbers achieved on networks like Facebook can also overwhelm, and make messages cohesive–much needed in the complicated battle over same-sex marriage in California.
