<title>Congressional Campaign Launches in the Wake of Komen for the Cure Controversy</title>
<description><![CDATA[<p><img class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-33630" title="one million strong" src="http://www.mediabistro.com/prnewser/files/2012/02/one-million-strong-300x134.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="134" />Democratic members of Congress including Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), and Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) have launched a campaign that wants to channel the fervor generated by the backlash to Susan G. Komen for the Cure&#8217;s <a href="http://www.mediabistro.com/prnewser/komen-for-the-cure-starts-on-the-path-to-recovery_b33513">move against</a> Planned Parenthood onto women&#8217;s rights.</p>
<p>&#8220;One Million Strong For Women&#8221; is a grassroots initiative that&#8217;s currently collecting email addresses on <a href="http://www.democratsenators.org/o/44/p/dia/action/public/index.sjs?action_KEY=369">its own website</a> and is being promoted on the sites of the participating Congress members. It&#8217;s not yet clear to us what the campaign will be doing specifically, but the site says, &#8220;We&#8217;ve got to build a grassroots force that&#8217;s ready to take them on whenever and wherever they attack women&#8217;s rights and women&#8217;s health.&#8221; &#8220;Them&#8221; are the opponents to women&#8217;s rights.</p>
<p>First up: Support for President Obama&#8217;s decision in favor of <a href="http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-57373298-503544/pressure-mounts-on-white-house-over-contraception-decision/">birth control coverage</a> in insurance plans, which is coming under fire from Catholic leaders and lawmakers.</p>

<title>Target Makes Changes With Jason Wu Collection, But We Still Couldn&#8217;t Get Anything</title>
<description><![CDATA[<p><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-33621" title="Jason-Wu-Target" src="http://www.mediabistro.com/prnewser/files/2012/02/Jason-Wu-Target.jpg" alt="" width="268" height="268" />Target made its Jason Wu capsule collection available in the wee hours of Sunday morning and, just like all the other collections, we managed to get absolutely nada. But not so for some folks, like the couple in <a href="http://www.observer.com/2012/02/jason-wu-collection-reveals-hole-in-targets-fashion-policy-video/">this video</a>, which has popped up across the Web as an example of the &#8220;hoarding&#8221; behavior of some shoppers who then post the items on eBay and other auction sites at inflated prices.</p>
<p>Target says it has taken steps to correct the problems that customers experienced with past collections, particularly the <a href="http://www.mediabistro.com/prnewser/fashions-high-low-collaborations-measured-by-media-impressions_b30447">Missoni line</a>. Among the changes: a different launch time, making the collection available in fewer stores, and better estimates for demand.</p>

<title>Research: Some People Watched the Super Bowl So They Wouldn&#8217;t Be Clueless Monday Morning</title>
<description><![CDATA[<p><img class="alignright size-full wp-image-33607" title="eli giants" src="http://www.mediabistro.com/prnewser/files/2012/02/eli-giants.jpg" alt="" width="298" height="181" />With everyone still <a href="http://www.mediabistro.com/prnewser/auto-companies-m-i-a-and-twitter-among-the-big-super-bowl-winners-and-the-giants_b33480">tallying the</a> <a href="http://socialtimes.com/over-2-million-people-watched-the-super-bowl-online_b89285">various</a> <a href="http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/tv/la-et-super-bowl-ratings-20120207,0,1436176.story">successes</a> of this past Sunday&#8217;s Super Bowl, we return to our question: <a href="http://www.mediabistro.com/prnewser/super-bowl-ad-frenzy-overshadowing-the-game_b33250">Do the ads overshadow the game?</a> According to a study from <strong><a href="http://www.mediabistro.com/MWW-Group-profile.html">MWW Group</a></strong>, the answer is no.</p>
<p>The firm surveyed 400 viewers between the ages of 18 and 34 on Friday, February 3 and 71 percent said they were interested in both the game and the ads. The findings show that &#8220;advertising is part of the Super Bowl&#8217;s appeal,&#8221; said Michael Kempner, MWW&#8217;s CEO.</p>
<p>More interesting perhaps is that 61 percent said they watched the game to know what people would be talking about the next day.</p>
<p>So everyone&#8217;s need to be in on the conversation in some way &#8212; simply being in the know &#8211;can drive viewers, participants, etc. That little nugget is a reminder of the importance of getting the word out to audiences effectively.</p>

<title>Komen for the Cure VP Karen Handel Resigns</title>
<description><![CDATA[<p><img class="size-medium wp-image-33545 alignleft" title="karen handel" src="http://www.mediabistro.com/prnewser/files/2012/02/karen-handel-300x235.jpg" alt="" width="210" height="165" />Just a day after <a href="http://www.mediabistro.com/prnewser/komen-for-the-cure-starts-on-the-path-to-recovery_b33513">we reported</a> on weekend efforts by Susan G. Komen for the Cure to move away from last weekend&#8217;s uproar over its decision to cut funding to Planned Parenthood, an SGK exec that many say was behind the decision has resigned.</p>
<p>Karen Handel (left) has stepped down from her post as VP for public policy. According to Handel&#8217;s resignation letter (obtained by the <a href="http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2012/02/07/komen_official_quits_planned_parenthood_dispute/">Associated Press</a>), the organization was on board with the decision at first. She calls the backlash a &#8220;gross mischaracterization of the strategy&#8230; and her involvement in it&#8221; and says that SGK saw the need to distance itself from a controversial association with Planned Parenthood.</p>
<p>Many had called for Handel to leave her post. Recommendations from comms experts and others have also called on SGK to speak with one clear and unified voice. Unfortunately, this news doesn&#8217;t achieve that.</p>
