Kratz’s PR career spanned more two decades. He started his own agency, Kratz & Co., which became Kratz & Jensen. The agency was sold in 2000 to Havas and was re-named Magnet Communications. In 2005 the agency joined the Euro RSCG division of Havas and took the name Euro RSCG Magnet. Kratz served as CEO of the agency. One of the biggest things for him in making the move was keeping his past hidden from students at the academy:
…almost no one there knew he had built and sold a public relations and marketing firm of 200 or so employees a few years before arriving at the academy. Nor did he mention that he’d served on the school’s board for a few years in the 1990s. “I was afraid it would discredit me in their eyes,” Mr. Kratz said.
