Howard Rubenstein Behind Bloomberg Bid for Third Term

At a press conference today, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg formally announced his decision to support changing the term limits law and seek a third term as mayor.

Given current financial conditions, this is a move that many New Yorker’s may get behind. However, besides Bloomberg’s usual advisers, who else was behind the decision? A PR pro, and a well known one at that: Howard Rubenstein.

New York magazine’s Geoffrey Gray confirms Rubenstein, “was the force behind a drive to convince Mayor Bloomberg to undergo a politically risky end run around term limits and run for a third term.”

“Considering what’s been going on in the economy, I felt it was my obligation. It was a confluence of things…I had clients, dozens of my clients, all wanting the same thing,” Rubenstein told Gray this morning.
