Kelly Cutrone: Fashion Publicity Like ‘Working In Emergency Room’

With this release, the title certainly sets the stage. In her first book, “If You Have to Cry, Go Outside: And Other Things Your Mother Never Told You,” fashion publicist turned reality TV star Kelly Cutrone delivers what she is known for: no BS commentary.

On the fast paced world of fashion PR:

If anyone really wanted to change the world, they’d bring in the fashion bitches, because nobody gets things done faster.

On getting fired by designer Yigal Azrouel after bringing Eliot Spitzer call girl Ashley Dupre to his Fashion Week show:

Could it really be that, in 2009, the fashion industry – which creates images of girls who look like they’ve been gangbanged on Alice in Wonderland adventures and calls them ad campaigns – was turning on me because I gave a front-row seat at Fashion Week to some girl who, like many of the women who attend fashion shows…had sex for money with a man thirty years older than her?

On meeting with Donald Trump and potentially working with him:

Trump might have been a godsend for our bottom line, and he himself might also have been one of New York’s most recognizable and well developed personal brands, but I still didn’t want that brand anywhere near mine.

Cutrone goes on to write that fashion PR is akin to “working in an emergency room.” The book, to be released by HarperOne February 2nd, is chock full of little ditties like this. It coincides with the premier episode of Cutrone’s Bravo reality show, “Kell on Earth.”
