LinkedIn PR Manager: “You Wouldn’t Hand Over Your Rolodex to Everyone You Meet at a Conference”

It’s no secret that in addition to socializing and connecting, many of us are using social networks for marketing and PR. Some do it well, and others don’t.

This topic was discussed in length with a reporter recently as to where “personal” ends and “business” begins. While there are many different takes on this dilemma, there is no one size fits all answer.

Krista Canfield, LinkedIn’s public relations manager (and disclosure: a former colleague) told AllBusiness.com that you treat your contacts like you treat your Rolodex. “You wouldn’t hand over your Rolodex to everyone you meet at a conference,” she said, noting once you make a contact, that person has access to your network.
