Recently, Helene Solomon, CEO of Boston-based PR firm Solomon McCown & Company, joined Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick and a group of state business leaders on a trip to Israel, part of the Massachusetts Innovation Economy Partnership Mission 2011. The goal of the mission, which also went to the U.K., was to discuss the opportunities for businesses between Massachusetts and these two countries in areas like technology and life sciences.
Now back from her trip, we spoke with Solomon about what she experienced and areas where the PR industry might be interested in working with Israeli businesses. Solomon’s group met with Jerusalem’s Mayor Nir Barkat who has undertaken a rebranding of the city through activities such as a marathon and film festival as well as improvements to its infrastructure. “How do you communicate the new brand of Jerusalem in a respectful but exciting way?” Solomon wrote in an email to us.
“We understood he feels that even Jerusalem needs to attract younger travelers to stay competitive. That would certainly be a communications audit and messaging assignment that I would relish, but I couldn’t help wondering if some brands really are scared.”
Still, with developments like the Rambam Health Care Campus, which is completely paperless, there is innovation of interest happening.
“We in Massachusetts and the United States are rightly proud of our world class hospitals and medical centers. What was clear from even a brief visit to Rambam, is that it deserves that title as well,” Solomon wrote.
