Dana Perino: I Don’t Understand Why Obama Went On Fox News

Watch the latest news video at video.foxnews.com

Dana Perino, former White House press secretary to President George W. Bush, did some Monday morning PR quarterbacking of President Obama’s sit down last night with Fox News’ Brett Baier on Fox and Friends today. “What I don’t understand, from a communications standpoint, is why the White House did the interview in the first place,” said Perino.

She said the administration should have held a press conference instead, which Fox would have covered anyway, and in which they may have had more control or could have selected the questions in advance.

In February, we noted how the Obama administration prefers sit down interviews as opposed to press conferences.

Meanwhile, the Obama administration has already moved on to today’s news from the Congressional Budget Office. A report from that office said the health-care bill will reduce the federal deficit by $138 billion over the next 10 years and by $1.2 trillion over the next 10 years after that.

Also: Perino will guest host Fox and Friends tomorrow.

Fox News’ Brett Baier: Administration Put ‘No Restrictions On Topics’ For Upcoming Obama Interview

obama_interview.jpg

One of the things that typically annoys journalists is when PR people ask for questions in advance of an interview, or try to put restrictions on what topics can be discussed.

It’s common practice, especially in high profile interviews, when media outlets are competing intensely for a booking and are more likely to cave in to such requests.

So it is with particular interest that we note Fox News’ Brett Baier, who said the White House “put no restrictions on topics” for his interview with President Obama today, TVNewser reports.

The interview will be aired in full tonight on Fox News’ Special Report at 6p.m. ET
