Powerful Anti-Defamation League Video: ‘Imagine’ a World Without Hate

One could argue that some of the power behind the stories of heroes like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Anne Frank and Harvey Milk stems not only from the courageous and honorable lives they led, but also from the tragic ways in which those lives were cut short. We wonder what work they left undone–and what more they would have accomplished. Now, a powerful video released in celebration of the Anti-Defamation League‘s centennial anniversary asks us to imagine a world in which all such icons of equality and tolerance survived to continue their work.

The film, created by Publicis Kaplan Thaler, explores what such a world might look like as John Lennon‘s famous solo hit, “Imagine,” plays in the background. According to the agency, the families of all of the individuals featured in the video generously gave their support for the film. Yoko Ono took a break from designing ridiculous menswear to secure the rights for Lennon’s song to be used.

The ADL hopes this video will prompt people to “Join us by watching, sharing and taking steps every day to create a world without hate.” The statement on their website is simple, powerful and reminiscent of Lennon’s famous lyrics: “Imagine a World Without Hate™. We do. Join us.”

Building on Existing Buzz for ‘LENNONYC’ Screening

Saturday, October 9 would’ve been John Lennon‘s 70th birthday. Fans will have the opportunity to gather in New York City’s Central Park on that evening to see a special screening of LENNONYC, a new documentary by American Masters, which is produced in association with WNET.  The film takes a look at Lennon’s life and work in New York City with his wife Yoko Ono and son Sean. The film will make its television debut on November 22. The clip above, via Thirteen.org, is an excerpt from the film.

DKC, which has been helping with promotions for the film since August, has also worked with WNET on other documentaries, and has also worked with PBS on movies such as the recent Ken Burns film Baseball. For the firm, the task was to plug into the conversation that already exists around John Lennon.

“It’s more an issue of providing a venue for people to share this experience together,” said Joe DePlasco, MD at DKC. Read more
