Bad PR: New York Post Mocks John Galliano’s ‘Orthodox’ Outfit

New York Post John GallianoWhile we agreed with Dior‘s decision to fire designer John Galliano in 2011 after his insensitive anti-Semitic rant, we also feel like the New York Post was reaching just a little bit with this headline despite the fact that they were able to collect angry quotes about the offending outfit from various New York Jewish leaders. Galliano’s publicist Liz Rosenberg (formerly with Madonna) could only throw up her hands and insist that the “accusations are not at all correct” because he’s worn the same outfit for years (and the hat, which is the only element of the ensemble that really resembles an Orthodox getup in the first place, was part of his brand’s 2012 menswear line).

But what’s a publicist to do? Unfortunately, no one is safe from the power of terrible pun-friendly headlines. But was “Schmuck!” really the best one they could write? The guy went to rehab and apologized thoroughly, for God’s sake.

Legendary Publicist Bobby Zarem: ‘I’m Basically An Artist’

zarem1.jpg

Bobby Zarem, a legendary New York publicist that many PRNewser readers may not recognize by name, but who has represented such bold faced names as Sylvester Stallone, Cher, Dustin Hoffman, Sophia Loren and movies like Saturday Night Fever, is leaving town.

Zarem, who also likes to take credit for the famous “I Love New York” campaign, is headed back to his hometown of Savannah, GA. Many a power publicist have toiled under Zarem, including Madonna’s publicist Liz Rosenberg, well-known event PR specialist Peggy Siegal and Publicity Club of New York president Peter Himler.

This comment in his “exit interview” with New York magazine is one to note:

You’re one of the most famous publicists of all time, even though you’ve said repeatedly that no one knows what you do.

They don’t and that’s because I’m not a bragger. If you’re a press agent and you’re smart, you don’t tell people what you do because if it doesn’t pan out you end up looking like an asshole. I never told my clients what I was doing in case it never materialized, and they never questioned it. They just knew I would get the job done and I always did, which is the difference between me and everyone else in my profession. I’m basically an artist.

Liz Rosenberg, a 39-year veteran of Warner Brothers Records, will leave the label to start her own PR firm at the end of the month, the AP reports.

Rosenberg will bring clients Michael Buble, Cher, and Stevie Nicks to her new venture, called Liz Rosenberg Media, and will still consult to WBR. She will also continue to represent Madonna, as she did when the pop star left Warner Brothers for concert promoter Live Nation in 2007.

“I was given the opportunity to work with the most talented artists in music history. I’m grateful that I will continue to represent some of these artists, in addition to several new artists,” Rosenberg said in a statement.
