Former Porter Novelli Exec Joins Yoxi

John Havens has joined Yoxi, a branding and media organization for entrepreneurs and organizations focused on social good. Havens will serve as EVP of strategy and engagement. In this role, he’ll lead business development for the company and match businesses with Yoxi’s entrepreneurs.

Previously, Havens was EVP of social media at Porter Novelli. Havens was cut from the firm during a round of layoffs this summer that included other firm execs. He was working as an independent consultant for Yoxi before being appointed to this position.

Earlier this year, we reported on Yoxi’s “Trim the Waste of Fashion” contest, which sought out companies with ideas for reducing environmental waste in the fashion and design industry.

Yoxi also announced a new COO and executive producer, Randy Makiej. This is a newly created position.

Back in May, we wrote about a fashion competition presented by Yoxi, an organization that runs socially-conscious contests across a variety of industries. In this case, the “Trim the Waste of Fashion” competition sought ideas that would reduce the impact of fashion and design on the environment.

Working with a team from OgilvyEarth the finalists brought branding and messaging to their suggestions. Today, Yoxi announced the winner– SEA:Endless.

The winner and all of the contestants will get their due at an event hosted by model Angela Lindvall in New York City next Wednesday.

Yoxi, a site that hosts competitions for socially-conscious ideas, is seeking entrants for its “Trim the Waste of Fashion” initiative.

For this contest, Yoxi is looking for teams to submit ideas about how the fashion industry can reduce its impact on the Earth and, by extension, our health. That includes everything from the carbon footprint of our clothing to the waste that’s produced just from making the fashions we wear. (According to Yoxi, 15 to 20 percent of the fabric used to make clothing goes in the trash.)

Starting today, teams can submit their ideas for a program, mobile app, or other project on the website, in the hopes of winning up to $40,000 in cash and help to make their idea a reality.
