Twitter, TweetDeck Finally Open Up About Acquisition

After keeping tight-lipped for the past day or so, Twitter and TweetDeck have finally posted comments on their blogs about Monday’s announced acquisition.

Kind of addressing user fears that the acquisition would lead to dramatic changes to TweetDeck, the Twitter blog reads, “In order to support this important constituency, we will continue to invest in the TweetDeck that users know and love.”

On the TweetDeck blog, founder Iain Dodsworth is equally ambiguous.

“The mainstream Twitter user-base is well catered for by and the official mobile clients. And by becoming part of the official platform, TweetDeck will now fill that role for brands, influencers, the highly active and anyone that just needs ‘more power’,” it says.

Adding that “change will be inevitable,” the post says the team will remain in London, which could explain Twitter’s recent, more aggressive moves to build up in that city despite the legal troubles it faces there.

Completely separately, you may have noticed that you’re getting more emails from Twitter. They’ve just introduced a new feature that will notify you when someone you follow retweets or favorites one of your tweets. It might make it easier to track results from a Twitter campaign, but it’s also adding a lot of email to everyone’s inbox. No word yet on whether you’ll be able to opt out of that.
