Position Description: The Design Lead (IT Database Programmer) ensures that the platform's data architecture, design patterns, and user interface components meet the needs of diverse stakeholders—including regional offices, grantees, and families. This individual will translate research into usable, inclusive, and accessible data-driven solutions and oversee the technical and human-centered implementation of design approaches.
Minimum Requirements:
US Citizenship Required
Position is Subject to Contract Award
Bachelor's of Science in Computer Science, or related field
8+ years of experience as a user experience researcher or designer
Portfolio showcasing strong design and research abilities
Experience in collecting end-user feedback and incorporating them in product development continually
Experience in facilitating collaborative decision-making through stories from research
Experience in guiding product development through using design artifacts (wireframes, sitemaps, flowcharts, storyboards, or other innovative approaches)
Experience in integrating user experience into agile development sprints
Experience with developing and maintaining usability research plans
Experience with USWDS design system
Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams to establish shared vision for the user experience
Experience with developing inclusive design for all populations by following the guidelines from WCAG
Responsibilities:
Lead the user research and design process
Create design artifacts to clearly communicate product vision to front end developers and stakeholders
Documenting and maintaining system and interface design
Conduct modern user research to support user story development and design
Perform usability testing and conduct interviews to gather user insights on improvement
Use an iterative development approach throughout the development process
Collaborate with front end developers to achieve consistent design and easy accessibility that follows WCAG
Test the design against the Requirements Traceability Matrix
Skills:
Ability to recognize and understand design debt
Ability to clearly communicate user-centered methods and their values
Ability to standardize design system for product development
Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills
Ability to present design to stakeholders and implement design feedback
Knowledge of data governance and interoperability standards in federal systems
Desired:
Masters in User Centered Design
Experience in the Federal grants management space
Experience using strong content design principles to assist in developing products for all user populations
Preferred Spanish language skills
HTML, CSS, JavaScript
