The System Intelligence and Machine Learning (SIML) organization at Apple seeks an experienced Machine Learning Architect to define technology direction, shape strategy, and lead R&D efforts in large language models (LLMs) and generative AI for images and videos. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop cutting-edge AI solutions for both cloud and edge devices reaching billions of users.

Description

Responsibilities include:

1. Technology Strategy & Direction: Define the technical roadmap for enhancing LLMs and generative models, aligning with business goals.
2. Leadership in R&D: Lead initiatives in model optimization, hardware-software co-design, diffusion models, multimodal AI, and generative video synthesis. Stay current with industry advancements.
3. Architecture Design: Create scalable, efficient architectures for training, optimizing, and deploying large models.
4. Innovation & Experimentation: Prototype novel techniques like fine-tuning, reinforcement learning, transfer learning, and multimodal alignment.
5. Collaboration & Mentorship: Partner with teams to transition research into production and mentor engineers and researchers.

Minimum Qualifications

• Masters or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, or related fields, or equivalent experience.
• Proficiency in deep learning frameworks like PyTorch.
• 15+ years in machine learning, with at least 2 years in LLMs or generative models.
• Experience with distributed training, model parallelism, and deployment of large models.
• Knowledge of quantization, distillation, inference techniques, and real-world deployment.
• Strong experimental, analytical, and iterative skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with multi-modal models (image, video, audio).
• Familiarity with Mixture of Experts, LoRA, Retrieval Augmented Generation.
• Publications in top AI/ML conferences.

Pay & Benefits

Base salary ranges from $197,400 to $360,200, depending on skills and experience. Benefits include medical, dental, retirement, stock options, educational reimbursement, and more. Additional bonuses or relocation support may apply. Learn more about Apple Benefits.
