The University Web Developer and User Experience Designer reports directly to the Assistant Director of Web Development, UX, and Content, with additional guidance from the Digital Director of Marketing and Communications and art direction from the Senior Director of Creative Strategy and Branding. This position is crucial for designing and maintaining the visual and functional aspects of the sjsu.edu website(s). Responsibilities include developing the website's look and feel, integrating UX best practices, contributing to content strategy, and supporting web programming, design, and maintenance for various university web properties. The role also involves providing consultation and support to other departments. Key Responsibilities
Support and enhance the core SJSU website(s) with updated graphics, multimedia, and UI improvements. Develop visual content for university communications, including the SJSU Newsroom and digital magazines. Design web interfaces and collaborate on interface pattern libraries. Implement design patterns across websites, blogs, emails, and digital platforms. Create a consistent visual design aligned with digital marketing strategies and ensure accessibility standards. Contribute to web project planning, strategy, and documentation. Collaborate with developers on advanced web components and integrations. Provide web graphics and content support to university divisions. Stay current with UX trends and strategies. Create wireframes, mockups, prototypes, and conduct user research to inform design decisions. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Proficiency with design software: Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Figma, Adobe Xd, Sketch, etc. Experience with code editors like Visual Studio Code, Dreamweaver, etc. Knowledge of CMS platforms: WordPress, Drupal, Modern Campus, email marketing tools, and video editing software. Understanding of web accessibility standards and responsive design principles. Familiarity with CSS frameworks, JavaScript, React, HTML, XML, and SEO practices. Strong graphic design skills and ability to translate communication needs into visual content. Interest in emerging technologies such as HTML5, CSS, Python, and AI. Experience in user research, usability testing, and creating personas and user journeys. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields or equivalent coursework. Minimum three years supporting information systems and technology. Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, wireframing, prototyping, HTML/CSS, and CMS platforms. Compensation
Classification: Information Technology Consultant - Career Salary: $7,000/month (anticipated) Range: $5,158 - $12,730/month Benefits include a comprehensive package valued at 30-35% of salary. Application Procedure
