FPGA Design Engineer - Software-defined Radio Systems

We are seeking a skilled FPGA Engineer to join our dynamic team in Rochester, New York. As a key contributor to our software-defined radio projects, you will be involved in the full lifecycle of FPGA firmware development from conception through deployment. This role requires deep technical expertise in both FPGA and ASIC design, encompassing detailed analysis, design, and verification of embedded systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in communications systems, be adept at multi-disciplinary collaboration, and thrive in an innovative environment.

Salary: $110,000.00 - $140,000.00 per year

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Analyze project requirements and develop FPGA specifications and development plans.
  • Design and code firmware using VHDL and create self-checking test benches using SystemVerilog.
  • Verify and validate firmware designs to ensure conformance with functional specifications and performance criteria.
  • Implement complex modem/DSP circuits in FPGAs or ASICs tailored for communications systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine design requirements and realize robust system solutions.
  • Conduct detailed design and implementation reviews, and present technical briefings to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain documentation including test plans and final verification reports.

Minimum Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with a minimum of 4 years of experience in FPGA/ASIC development.
  • Direct experience in the development and verification of embedded system solutions using FPGA/ASIC.
  • Proficiency in VHDL or Verilog and SystemVerilog for FPGA design and verification.
  • Understanding of embedded system design, communication system theory, and DSP.
  • Capability to work in Linux based development environments and proficiency with scripting languages like TCL and Python.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in testing and debugging MODEM RF Designs.
  • Familiarity with MatLab, Simulink, or similar DSP modeling tools.
  • Experience with UVM and FPGA verification tools such as Mentor Questa, Visualizer.
  • Active SECRET clearance.
  • Experience with FPGA Vendor Specific tools (Vivado, Quartus, Libero).

Skills:

  • Strong analytical and debugging skills.
  • Ability to architect, implement, and verify complex algorithms in FPGAs and software.
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills, capable of conveying complex technical issues as clear, actionable items.
  • Self-motivated team player with an ability to work closely with cross-disciplinary teams.
