Job Summary:
We are looking for a Media Systems Engineer to join the team onsite in Bristol, CT. The ideal candidate has deep experience with live media production systems, broadcast technology, and cloud-based platforms. This role involves ensuring system stability and performance, supporting media workflows, and contributing to the strategic development of technical infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support and Maintenance: Respond to and resolve technical issues affecting acquisition, production, and content distribution. Perform diagnostic testing and repair on complex media systems.
- System Monitoring: Utilize performance monitoring tools to identify and resolve service problems. Install software patches and updates to ensure smooth system operations.
- Media Signal Analysis: Troubleshoot traditional SDI and IP 2110 streaming environments, including cloud platforms as necessary.
- Preventative Maintenance: Conduct routine maintenance of broadcast systems such as playout servers, robotics, switchers, and automation systems to ensure optimal performance.
- Project Participation: Assist in engineering projects and contribute to system/workflow documentation.
- Vendor and Contractor Management: Support third-party service providers and enforce contract scope and performance standards.
- Team Development: Assist with training and evaluation of technical staff; support corrective action and development plans.
- Procurement and Planning: Support equipment procurement and contribute to long-range planning for future media technology needs.
- Policy Development: Help create and implement policies to ensure optimal integration of systems across the enterprise.
- Operational Leadership: Lead support for daily operations of media production and distribution systems.
Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience: 5+ years in live media production and engineering environments.
- Skills:
- Advanced troubleshooting in IP-based and studio broadcast environments.
- Familiarity with microservices, DevOps tools, and scripting (Python, NodeJS, Bash, PowerShell).
- Expertise in SMPTE standards (ST 292M, ST 2110, etc.).
- Proficient in compression formats (MPEG2/4, HEVC, JPEG 2000/XS).
- Hands-on with Evertz control systems, MAMs, and transcoding/encoding workflows.
- Strong understanding of AutoCAD and technical schematics.
- Certifications: At least one foundational cloud certification (AWS, Azure, or CompTIA Cloud+).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with coordinated receiver decoders, timing of AV systems, Nielsen VANC, and Linear Acoustics.
- Prior work with broadcast transmission systems (RF, Satellite, Fiber).
- Deep knowledge of AWS infrastructure including EC2, S3/Glacier.
- Familiarity with Imagine Communications, Grass Valley, Avid, Vizrt, Dalet, Calrec, and related vendors.
