The Program Director facilitates grants administration for programs such as the Independent Artist Awards and Grants for Artists, collaborating with MSAC staff on other initiatives that support independent artists. Position Duties
This role involves creating, planning, and executing all aspects of assigned programs, including determining eligibility, managing the grants process, processing funding recommendations, providing technical assistance and training to artists and panelists, and making policy recommendations aligned with MSAC’s mission. The Director oversees grantee compliance with MSAC and state policies. The successful candidate will possess: Excellent interpersonal skills for working with public and private sector officials Strong written and oral communication skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Skills to manage multiple high-priority projects Knowledge of trends in the work of independent artists and public funders Experience managing project timelines and coordinating schedules Proficiency with Google Suite or relevant software Willingness to travel statewide Minimum Qualifications
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent. Experience: Four years of administrative or professional work in a relevant setting. Notes: Substitutions include college credits or degrees in arts-related fields, or U.S. Armed Forces military service involving relevant staff work. Desired or Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates with: Four years’ experience in arts project management or grants administration Presentation experience Experience working in public or non-profit arts sectors, supporting independent artists Proficiency with Google Suite or similar software Knowledge of independent artists’ work and public funding practices Experience in grants, contracts, and program administration Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications
Applicants must possess a valid Maryland driver’s license if required for duties involving vehicle operation. Selection Process
