works out of our
San Diego, CA
location in the Abbott
Infectious Diseases
Business Unit.
Our diagnostic solutions are used in hospitals, laboratories, and clinics around the globe. The crucial information derived from our tests, instruments, and informatics systems is often the first step in patient care decision-making for hundreds of health conditions from heart attacks to blood disorders to infectious diseases and cancers.
The
Senior UX Designer
hired will apply their technical expertise in user-experience (UX) design and user interface (UI) design to design and develop point-of-care, medical diagnostic products for Infectious Diseases. They will focus on the user-facing design of product interfaces through the design, prototyping, and testing process. The
Senior UX Designer
will closely collaborate with key partner teams, such as human factors, instrument software and industrial design to create easy-to-use and technically feasible diagnostic product systems that deliver a well-considered overall user experience.
What You’ll Work On
Work with R&D teams and the strategic marketing to design and develop user experience (UX) design and user interface (UI) design concepts and prototypes for diagnostic product systems based on user-research and product strategy.
Apply your user experience (UX) design and user interface (UI) design skillset to create UX journey maps, task-flow diagrams, UX/UI wireframes & prototypes across phases of the new product development process.
Work with the human factors team and lead UX design & UX prototyping for usability studies to uncover user pain points & opportunities for design improvement.
Work with the software instrument team to implement UX/UI design concepts balancing interaction design, visual design, and technical feasibility.
Work with industrial design to design concepts and prototypes that demonstrate overall user experience for different end-users, use-scenarios, and environments.
Collaborate with cross-functional project teams to identify key requirements that have an impact to UX/UI Design. Provide strategic guidance related to UX/UI Design including design approach, key considerations, and trade-offs.
Advocate the goals of UX/UI design across the division through effective communication with leadership and collaborators.
Coordinate design activities with vendors and consultants to ensure prototypes or design services meet project requirements and milestones.
Required Qualifications
Bachelors in User Experience Design, Product Design, or similar field.
5 or more years of experience as a professional UX Designer.
Proficiency with industry-standard design and prototyping tools including Figma and Adobe Creative Suite.
Demonstrated experience stewarding projects through the human-centered design process.
Ability to distill requirements and stakeholder input into simple, intuitive UX/UI design concepts.
A portfolio highlighting your design skillset and impact, through work samples and case studies.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Independent, organized, and meticulous.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrable experience in designing, prototyping, and launching exceptional end-to-end user experiences.
Knowledge of web & mobile UI technologies, usability, and accessibility standards.
Experience in healthcare, medical device development and design controls process.
Experience with IVD Products
Experience working with human factors, software & industrial design teams.
Demonstrated critical thinking skills.

The base pay for this position is $86,700.00 – $173,300.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
