Summary/Objective:
The Reference Librarian supports the services and activities of the Reference and Public Services Department. This role advises library patrons and staff in the selection and use of film-related materials and offers both reference and in-depth research assistance to onsite and virtual library users.
This position is represented by a union.
Essential Functions of the Job:
- Manage the library’s electronic reference email service.
- Manage project orders and deliver library assets to patrons, including requests for remote access to materials through the library’s Research and Duplication Services program.
- Assist with virtual reference services and conduct virtual training sessions for patrons.
- Staff the library’s Reference Desk and Orientation Desk, assist patrons in accessing library materials, and resolve any patron issues that may arise.
- Assist with the management of the Library Portal.
- Assist with the assessment and feedback of library databases.
- Assist with library tours and events.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- A master’s in library science (MLIS) degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association.
- Knowledge of film history and familiarity with print and online film research resources.
- Intermediate proficiency with basic software systems, including Microsoft Office, as well as a working knowledge of library software and databases.
- Minimum of three years of work experience in a library or reference services role.

Physical Demands
- Kneeling, bending, or stooping to access books and filed materials.
- Ability to move and transport boxes up to 30 lbs.
- Ability to ascend and descend stairways.
Required Vaccination: Full vaccination against COVID-19 is required, including any booster vaccinations as applicable. Exception: Medical and religious accommodations approved by the Office of People & Culture.
Compensation: The expected salary for this role is $26.44 per hour. The actual base pay offered will be determined by factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and other factors permitted by law. Decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis.
