The Circulation desk provides a wide range of support and services to ASU students, faculty, staff, other
affiliates, and the general public, including staffing the library 7 days a week and serving as the main point
of contact. The Circulation desk creates Library patron accounts, checks out library materials (books,
media, course reserves and technology), checks them back in and re-shelves returned items. They also lead
units on regular stacks maintenance (including straightening cleaning, shelf-reading, and inventory).Manages student worker staffing of the library circulation desk (approx. 84 hours per week), including
hiring training, supervision, and hours management. Processes overdue and billing notices to patrons.
Assigns and clears administrative holds on patron accounts. Reviews, revises, and enforces library
circulation policies. Supports the Access and Distance Learning librarian on library initiatives/projects and
Tech services with book repairs and processing as needed.
Primary Job Duties:
- This position will be responsible for the hiring, training, scheduling and active supervision
of the approximately 20 student employees that work at the Circulation Desk. - Coordinate shift coverage, assign work, and engaging students with job development skills.
- Supervises the day to day operations of the circulation desk, including overall scheduling
personally staffing the desk during times when there are gaps in student worker coverage. - Makes sure all patron records are input properly, reserve materials are handled correctly, and shelving of
returned materials is conducted consistently with appropriate library classification schemes
including Library of Congress and Dewey Decimal classification systems. - Levies or waives fines and fees as appropriate.
- Daily processing of both overdue and billing notices. Includes checking that materials are in fact overdue or missing before notices are sent
- Administrative holds are levied because of overdue and billing notices. Those holds need to then
be cleared after the return of materials and payment of fines or replacement costs. - Runs generation of circulation statistics, patron foot traffic statistics, work study award balances etc.
- The circulation supervisor will support technical services tasks for cataloging and collections
management. These responsibilities include new book processing, label printing, and book repairs
for damaged collection items, moving new collection materials into the circulating collection. - Participates in individual and library team-based projects and initiatives, such as library displays,
events, marketing and other strategic initiatives.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience Only:
Two (2) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position
OR
Education and Experience:
A combination of related education and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to two (2) years

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION:
The preferred candidate will have experience with as many of the following as possible:
- Proficiency with digital resources, databases, and library technologies.
- Experience using ERP Systems.
- Proficiency with technology, including Microsoft, Excel and Google solutions.
- Ability to prioritize and complete tasks.
- Proven experience working independently
- Experience supervising

Note: Although this position is non-exempt for FLSA, it is a condition of employment at Adams State University to agree to receive compensation time in lieu of overtime pay.
*Years of experience will be expressed in terms of full-time equivalent service with full-time workload equal to one (1) Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) year. No more that 1.00 FTE year may be credited in any twelve (12) month period. Positions working 40 hours or less per week will be pro-rated (30 hrs/wk=0.75 FTE=9 mos credit; 20 hrs/wk=0.5 FTE=6 mos credit; 10 hrs/wk=0.25 FTE= 3 mos credit.)*
