The Engineering Technician I earns competitive pay of $14.61/hr. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN I
As an Engineering Technician I, you will create engineering plans, specifications, special purpose maps, and site maps, as well as exhibits for Open Records Requests. Your role is essential in revising the city's infrastructure maps (e.g., streets, utilities, traffic signals, drainage) using AutoCAD and GIS software. You will maintain computer models of water distribution and sewer collection systems, prepare surveys and inspections, collect and analyze engineering data, and prepare reports, drawings, and calculations. You enjoy being helpful and providing support to other divisions within the department. Skills in graphics operations and a genuine enjoyment of your work are valued.
Qualifications for an Engineering Technician I
- Requires knowledge of vocational, administrative, or technical areas, typically obtained with a two-year Associate's degree or equivalent from a college, technical, business, vocational, or correspondence school.
- Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
- Requires one (1) year of experience in graphics, AutoCAD, GIS, and other software programs.
- Preferred: Three (3) years of experience in graphics, AutoCAD, GIS, and related software.
- Must hold a valid class "C" driver's license from the Texas Department of Public Safety with a satisfactory driving record.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test administered by the City of Edinburg at the city's expense.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
