Alabama State University invites applications to fill the position of Assistant Photographer. The successful candidate will provide high quality photographic coverage of university news, events, campus life, and athletics. This is a fast-paced role ideal for a skilled photographer with a passion for visual storytelling.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive photography coverage of university activities, including events, student life, academic programs, and sporting events
- Edit, caption, and distribute images efficiently under tight deadlines
- Writer clear and engaging AP-style captions and gather essential context to assist writers and social media staff
- Collaborate with university departments to create compelling visuals for marketing and promotional materials
- Set up and manage studio lighting for headshots, portraits, and marketing materials
- Maintain photo archives and ensure accurate metadata and tagging
- Perform other duties as assigned
Bachelor's degree in Photography or two years of professional experience, a portfolio demonstrating a strong range of journalistic, portrait, commercial and sports photography, must have a strong knowledge for photojournalism principles and techniques, proven experience with studio lighting for both portraiture and marketing materials, be proficient in Adobe Photoshop and related photo editing software, be familiar with digital asset management systems, file formats, and color spaces, have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work both independently and collaboratively, and must be able to walk the campus and travel as needed for assignments, including nights, and weekends.EEOC STATEMENT:
