Reporting to the Dean of the School of Information Sciences and the Wayne State University Library System (ULS), this leadership role offers a unique opportunity to grow the school’s programs, enrollment, and resources, providing strategic and comprehensive oversight of its academic programs. About the Associate Dean's Position:
The Associate Dean will lead the School alongside faculty and the Dean, building on existing strengths and creating a sustainable vision for the school’s degree programs. Responsibilities include fostering campus collaborations, expanding joint programs, developing entrepreneurial initiatives, and serving on the Dean’s Leadership Council to influence library leadership and partnerships that support student learning and faculty research.
The role involves managing the daily operations of the School of Information Sciences, overseeing the budget, enrollment management, academic programming, and resource development through enrollment growth, fundraising, and grants. The Associate Dean will build relationships with students, alumni, university departments, and external partners, utilizing data and best practices to guide program effectiveness. Organizational development, faculty recruitment, inclusive excellence, and faculty support are key responsibilities. The role also emphasizes outreach, teaching (one course annually), and leading accreditation efforts.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will be a recognized leader in Information Sciences or a related field, with a proven record of achievement suitable for appointment as a Full Professor with tenure. An earned doctorate in LIS/IS or a related discipline is required, along with creativity, vision, and leadership skills.
