About Spectrum News Fellowship: Spectrum News is seeking talented, creative, highly self-motivated, and enthusiastic individuals to join our team as Editorial Fellows! From the first interview through Fellowship completion, we offer students a competitive, hands-on, and exciting learning experience that will position you for future news journalism and production opportunities. We take pride in nurturing upcoming storytellers by providing a robust learning experience with Spectrum News. Selected candidates will have the opportunity to work with and learn from award-winning journalists.
About Spectrum Networks: Spectrum Networks operates over 30 hyper-local news and regional sports networks owned by Charter Communications, Inc. Our goal is to provide essential local news and information, fostering relevant and thoughtful conversations that promote informed and engaged communities.
Experience You Will Gain: The Spectrum News Fellowship offers meaningful, hands-on experience to develop marketable skills. You'll work in a professional, 24/7 newsroom setting, applying classroom knowledge. This experience prepares you for various roles in a newsroom.
Fellowship Tracks: The program rotates through three tracks every two months:
- MMJ Track: Train as a multimedia journalist, pitching, shooting, editing, and writing stories for Spectrum News. Learn equipment use, editing, and production. Work with MMJs and meet weekly with a mentor for feedback.
- Digital Producer Track: Train as a Digital Producer, curating content, writing articles, and creating social media content. Learn content management, AP style, and working during breaking news, with weekly mentor meetings.
- Producer Track: Train as a Producer to produce a half-hour newscast, learn production systems, editing, graphics, and storytelling techniques, with weekly feedback sessions.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Participate and complete each track’s modules
- Complete tasks and projects assigned by mentors
- Attend development activities as scheduled
- Be enthusiastic, communicative, and eager to learn!

Skills/Abilities & Knowledge:
- Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to relate well with diverse populations
- Ability to build relationships with internal personnel
- Proactive problem-solving skills
Eligibility Requirements:
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Graduate degree
- Current class standing of Senior or Graduate Student
- Students must be 18+ years old
- Valid driver’s license for authorized driving
- Authorization to work in the U.S.
- Willing to participate for at least nine months (20+ hours/week)
- Flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays for breaking news
