GENERAL STATEMENT
The Station Production and Imaging Assistant serves as part of the 22 West Radio student management team. They plan and direct activities of the production department while assisting Student General Manager and the Station Program Assistant in the overall operation and management of the station.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Selects vocal, instrumental, and recorded music suitable to station format and type of recorded messaging.
- Recruits, trains and supports volunteer production assistants and interns.
- Maintains and continually updates the production music library through procurement of musical materials from on campus and external sources.
- Maintains effective security measures to backup and prevent loss of musical materials and equipment.
- Assists the Student General Manager and Station Program Assistant to ensure and maintain all recorded imaging and production audio needs of the station.
- Assists the Station Program Assistant with the training of the DJ/hosts in audio quality and station imaging use.
- Maintains a database of current PSAs and promos for affiliate DJs recording remotely.
- Works with Advertising Assistants and Station Music Assistant to support DJ services with playlists as required.
- Assists the Student General Manager in the maintenance of all paperwork required by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), KKJZ, and the CSULB Foundation.
- Attends biweekly staff meetings and submits a written weekly report following guidelines from the Student General Manager.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
One year of college; or three to six months related experience and/or training in audio production; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be concurrently enrolled at CSULB in six or more undergraduate units (3 or more graduate units). Must possess a basic working knowledge of a radio station and an above average knowledge and skill level with audio editing software. Recommended one year experience as a disc jockey or volunteer with 22 West Radio or other radio station environment.
Knowledge and Abilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software and the Google, Adobe and Microsoft Office suite of applications, especially audio editing software.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and correspondence; ability to speak effectively before groups of students, customers or employees of organization; ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form; ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Individual must acquire proficiency in Station Playlist Pro and Adobe Audition software through participation in mandatory training and also complete training on FCC broadcast regulations regarding noncommercial radio. 90-day probation review required.
