Job Overview
A law firm is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior to Mid-Level Product Design and User Interface Patent Associate Attorney to join their team in Kansas City, MO. The ideal candidate will have a strong academic background, relevant experience in patent preparation and prosecution, and technical expertise in various cutting-edge fields such as software, artificial intelligence, IoT, networking, and quantum technologies. The attorney will work closely with clients and colleagues to protect intellectual property rights and develop legal strategies related to patents.
Responsibilities- Prepared and prosecuted patent applications for product design and user interface technologies, ensuring compliance with U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) regulations.
- Collaborate with engineering teams and inventors to draft and file patent applications that cover software-related, artificial intelligence, and IoT/networking innovations.
- Conduct thorough patent searches and analyses to evaluate the patentability of new inventions.
- Provide legal advice on patentability, patent infringement, and patent portfolio management.
- Support litigation teams in patent disputes, including drafting legal opinions and strategy development.
- Work closely with clients to understand their product design and technical requirements and align them with patent protection strategies.
- Assist senior attorneys in legal research, document preparation, and client communications.
- Stay current with new developments in patent law, particularly in software, AI, IoT, networking, and quantum technologies.
- A minimum of 2+ years of experience in patent preparation and prosecution.
- A degree in physics, electrical engineering, or computer science.
- Experience with software-related technologies, artificial intelligence, IoT, networking, or quantum technologies.
- Admission to the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office) is required.
- JD (Juris Doctor) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active Bar membership in at least one U.S. state, preferably Missouri.
- Strong understanding of patent law, with the ability to analyze and apply legal principles to complex technical subjects.
- Experience working in a law firm and/or industry setting is preferred.
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- Bachelor's degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Admission to the USPTO is required.
- Bar membership in good standing in at least one U.S. state.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical ideas clearly and concisely.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail in reviewing technical documents and legal filings.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in legal research and the preparation of high-quality written work products.
- Strong client service orientation, with the ability to build and maintain client relationships.
- Familiarity with patent portfolio management and patent litigation support.
- Ability to stay updated on technological advancements in software, AI, IoT, networking, and quantum technologies.
