Overview
Brown University Library invites applications for a Systems Librarian position to lead in the implementation, ongoing maintenance, and future development of enhanced services to Brown University’s diverse campus community through our Library Services Platform (LSP), which includes Alma, Primo, and Leganto. This contemporary system represents the backbone of our operations relating to scholarly resource acquisition, description, discovery, dissemination, and management, and is a critical conduit to our mission to serve the research, teaching, and scholarship needs of the Brown University students, faculty, and staff. Reporting directly to the Deputy University Librarian and chief of operations, the Systems Librarian will work closely with senior leadership to establish strategic goals and lead in future product development. A strong focus on inclusive and universal design, accessibility for a broad range of users, and equitable access to resources and services is essential.
The Systems Librarian plans, implements, and evaluates the use of the Library Services Platform for all aspects of the Library’s operations (cataloging, acquisitions, circulation, resource sharing, reserves, etc.). They serve as the Library’s chief liaison with the LSP vendor and user communities. In collaboration with senior leadership (the Head of Access Services, the Head of Technical Services, the Director of Library Digital Technologies, the Director of Collections Care, and the Assistant Director of the John Hay Library) they provide technical expertise for projects with the Library’s consortial partnerships and provide leadership in short- and long-range planning for the LSP.
The Systems Librarian participates in research, planning, and implementation of new technologies related to the LSP; delivering high-level expertise and assistance. They collaborate with colleagues across the BUL to continually improve the usability of both the front and back-end systems to ensure the discovery and delivery of content in the LSP is optimized for universal access. Of critical importance, the Systems Librarian ensures the integration of electronic services and software with the LSP is properly configured and maintained, working with partners in the Office of Information Technology to ensure continuity of business operations, data security, and user authentication.
The Systems Librarian analyzes workflows in the library’s functional areas associated with the LSP and creates, improves or investigates automated solutions for manual tasks and improves upon existing automated routines. They develop training for staff across the library in use of tools and software and provide related documentation. The Systems Librarian will provide technical support for complex e-resource access issues.
In collaboration with the Director of Library Planning and Assessment and the AUL for Scholarly Resources, the Systems Librarian will create and maintain a routine reporting system that supports data-driven decision making and financial management.
