The anticipated hiring range for this position is $35,597.23 - $38,687.29 annually. The full salary range for this position is $35,597.23 - $51,772.70.
The schedule for this position will be Tuesday - Thursday, 10:00am - 7:00pm, Friday - Saturday, 8:00am - 5:00
pm. Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Library Director, Lead Library Assistants use judgment to serve routine and non-routine public service demands to ensure the essential duties of the library are completed in a timely and courteous manner. Lead Assistants help establish and maintain a high customer service performance standard by providing excellent and seamless service. Lead Assistants apply, explain, and enforce library policies as representatives of the Lewiston City Library.
Essential Functions:
Assist the public at the Circulation or Information desk alongside Assistants. Superviseassistant circulation staff. Provide training on all circulation functions of the library for assistants and pages. Resolve customer accounts and service needs. Act as responsible party for opening and closing the library and route questions regarding use of the building by patrons to appropriate staff. Apply and explain policies and serve as a model of effective teamwork and customer service for other employees by being professional, courteous, responsible, compassionate, dependable, and a resource for entry level staff and volunteers. Represent the library on consortium committees as needed. Routine tasks performed by Lead Assistants may also include: processing inter-library loan requests; maintaining patron records;providing reader's advisory; directing volunteers; providing tours of the library for visiting groups both large and small; helping with library programming for youth, teens, and adults; staff scheduling and preparation of financials for the circulation desks in the absence of the Administrative Assistant; as well as specific projects as assigned. Responsibilities may include other duties as assigned. Night and weekend shifts required.
Minimum Qualifications: Associate degree or Bachelor degree preferred in related fields of early learning, education, social work, and/or information technology. Customer service experience; money handling skills; general knowledge of databases, software packages and technology; and, education or experience working with youth or public preferred. Possession of, or ability to obtain a valid Idaho Driver's License.
Knowledge & Abilities: The ideal candidate must demonstrate knowledge of library operations; have three years of previous work experience which includes customer service; demonstratestrong attention to detail and the ability to deal tactfully and effectively with other staff and the public; communicate clearly and effectively; apply and explain rules, guidelines, policies and procedures;have experience training and providingclear direction to others; and be capable of working independently. Previous public library experience is highly desired.
Working Conditions: Work setting is formal, team oriented, having both routine and variable tasks. Work pace and pressure is variable, but frequently fast-paced and high pressure. Primary functions require the following: ability to work in an office and operate office equipment and technology; ability to stand for extended periods of time; ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels; ability to bend and twist, sit, stoop, kneel, push, pull, and crawl; ability to lift 35-40 lbs, ability to carry 30 lbs, ability to reach in all directions. Please note, Non-Seasonal Part Time positions working 20-29 hours per week are eligible for PERSI Retirement and pro-rated Sick Leave and Vacation Accrual. Seasonal and Non-Seasonal Part Time jobs working less than 20 hours per week are not benefit eligible.
