Eligibility for Employment Contract: Yes
Position Purpose: In collaboration with the school community and the Media Technology Advisory Committee, the school library media coordinator creates, aligns, develops, and implements a school library program based upon state and national standards, research- and evidence-based best practices, goals of the school improvement plan, and the Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) Strategic Plan.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
- Extensive knowledge of and ability to implement a comprehensive school library program;
- Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Google Apps;
- Excellent customer service skills;
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills;
- Ability to work independently, identify needs of the school library program, and complete tasks to address identified needs;
- Ability to deliver high-quality instruction to student learners;
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing, using various communication techniques and tools;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students, parents, and the community.
Education, Training, and Experience
- Master's degree in library science with certification in school library media from a regionally accredited college or university.
Certification and License Requirements
- Hold or be qualified to hold a North Carolina Professional Educator's License as a School Library Media Coordinator (076 license).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Leadership: Aligns all components of the school library program with local and state priorities and standards.
- Provides leadership in planning, promoting, and sustaining the school library program, services, and resources.
- Participates in school PLCs to support teaching and learning goals.
- Leads the Media Technology Advisory Committee, establishing and supporting library policies and procedures.
- Provides professional learning opportunities for staff.
- Leads the school community in best practices regarding copyright, fair use, digital citizenship, etc.
- Organizes the library facilities and resources to support the school's mission and goals.
- Ensures the library is welcoming and inclusive, representing the school's diversity.
Instruction
- Uses effective pedagogy to teach information and digital literacy skills.
- Assesses student informational needs to inform instruction.
- Implements a school-wide research model.
Collection Management
- Develops and maintains a collection management plan.
- Facilitates circulation among stakeholders.
- Analyzes collection data to meet learners' needs.
- Manages collection funds responsibly.
- Keeps accurate inventories of materials.
Work Environment/Physical Requirements
This role operates in a school environment with a noise level of low to moderate. Standard office equipment is used. The role may involve contact with staff, students, parents, and community. It requires medium physical effort, exerting up to 25 pounds.
