Summary
The Library Operations Student Assistant staffs the Information Desk, Print Center Desk, and Receiving Room at Bender Library as necessary. Typical duties include answering phones, providing information to visitors, handling room reservation inquiries, stocking supplies, and deterring theft and damage of library materials. The student may also patrol the library to ensure policy compliance.
Essential Functions
- Providing excellent customer service.
- Providing directions and referrals to library departments and campus offices.
- Addressing patron complaints.
- Troubleshooting printers and internet access.
- Managing lost and found, stocking supplies.
- Maintaining library spaces.
- Recording patron data and statistics.
- Communicating concerns and issues to appropriate personnel.
- Supporting other library duties as assigned.
Position Type/Expected Hours
- Student, part-time.
- 10-15 hours/week.
- Shifts between 8:00 AM-10:00 PM, depending on library hours.
- FWS awards are welcome.
- Include your expected hours and availability in your application.
- This position is onsite only.
Salary Range
- $17.50/hour.
Required Education and Experience
- Excellent customer service, interpersonal, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail, ability to prioritize and multitask.
- Active student at American University.
- Ability to work collegially and independently.
- Willingness to work mornings, evenings, including weekends.
- Must lift 40 pounds.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Experience with multi-line phones, basic PC and Mac operations, MS Office, troubleshooting skills.
