WATN WLMT-TV Memphis

The TEGNA-owned ABC/CW affiliate in Memphis is searching for an ambitious Digital Content Producer who thrives in a fast-paced news environment and has an audience-first approach to writing, producing, and distributing local news content.

Our digital producers monitor digital audience trends to identify and write engaging local news content that broadens our audience. They are responsible for curating quality content and overseeing the audience experience across all WATN WLMT-TV Memphis platforms, including website, mobile, app, streaming, and social media. They work as part of the larger content team to break news and tell compelling stories in a 24/7 news environment.

The ideal candidate is an avid news consumer and writes accurate, compelling content with a sense of urgency.

Qualified candidates should be strong writers, capable of writing quickly and accurately while tracking multiple streams of information. They should also have solid news judgment and experience producing and copy-editing digital content. Experience with SEO best practices and audience listening are a plus.

We're looking for someone with strong initiative and an inner drive who is eager to learn and grow.

Responsibilities

1. Write and distribute original and accurate breaking news content
2. Curate and schedule news content across all station platforms, including website, mobile app, social media, and streaming
3. Edit reporter stories for grammar, clarity, structure, AP style, and digital optimization
4. Use creative techniques like subheads, hyperlinks, graphics, and media to enhance stories
5. Write in an exciting, captivating, and authentic manner
6. Research facts to ensure credibility
7. Monitor news releases and social listening to find new content, enterprise stories, and community contacts
8. Analyze data and metrics to inform editorial and strategic decisions
9. Perform additional tasks as assigned by supervisors or senior producers
10. Uphold journalistic integrity and station branding across platforms

Requirements

1. BA/BS in journalism, communications, or equivalent experience
2. 0-1 years of experience writing breaking news or news articles in AP style
3. Strong communication and organizational skills; ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
4. Ability to handle live, breaking news calmly and efficiently
5. Strong news judgment and understanding of journalistic principles
6. Proficiency in AP style, copy editing, and SEO
7. Experience with CMS, photo, and video editing systems is preferred
8. Ability to write in an engaging and conversational tone is preferred
9. Experience managing content on social media platforms such as Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook
10. Ability to create engaging, audience-driven content
11. Knowledge of digital analytics is a plus
12. Familiarity with ENPS, Edius, Canva is a plus
13. Willingness to work various shifts, including mornings, nights, and weekends
