Overview
Apartment Therapy was originally launched in 2001 by interior designer Maxwell Ryan (nicknamed “The Apartment Therapist”) as a weekly newsletter for clients. We officially became an independently-owned company in 2004, and since then Apartment Therapy Media has grown to become the only media group dedicated to life at home. We are committed to teaching our audience real-life solutions by giving them tools to create happy, healthy homes through our award-winning brands: Apartment Therapy, The Kitchn, Cubby, and Dorm Therapy. Together, our portfolio engages a monthly audience of 47 million users across platforms, while our dedicated team of over 140 professionals collaborates from our sunny New York City office and locations across the U.S. and around the globe.
Apartment Therapy Media is looking for a skilled Editor, Cleaning & Organizing to join our dynamic Lifestyle team. This role will report to the Lifestyle Director and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the cleaning and organizing sections of Apartment Therapy, including (but not limited to) writing, assigning, and editing daily content.
Our team is seeking an individual who has a proven passion for cleaning and organizing. This includes being tuned into the social and cultural trends as well as the stories, issues, and ideas that represent the myriad ways our readers keep their spaces clean and organized.
The ideal candidate should have a strong editorial background and be nimble, flexible, and able to adapt in an ever-changing digital environment. A deep understanding of traffic patterns, ability to ideate on new story formats, and knack for spotting emerging trends and themes are musts. They should be comfortable running the cleaning and organizing verticals that include well-sourced, reported stories and quick-turnaround trend assignments.
The Editor, Cleaning & Organizing will also assist the Lifestyle Director on running larger franchises and tentpole programs and collaborate closely with the Lifestyle team and other Apartment Therapy editors, as well as the SEO and growth teams. This is a hybrid role based in the New York City area and will require a minimum of two days a week in our SoHo office.
Responsibilities:
- Run the cleaning and organizing verticals at Apartment Therapy: assigning, editing, or writing a total of approximately 45-60 pieces of content a month
- Collaborate with the Lifestyle Editor on short-lead content for cleaning and organizing
- Develop and run series and columns in the cleaning and organizing verticals
- Bring new voices and perspectives to Apartment Therapy that represent a range of lived experiences
- Oversee the organizing and cleaning freelance budget
- Assist the Lifestyle Director and other team members in running larger franchises, tentpoles, and packages throughout the year (such as the Cure programs, awards programs, and more)
- Support traffic and post goals, working alongside the Lifestyle Director to identify trends, ideate new formats, and continue to grow overall traffic for the verticals
- Monitor traffic, drive growth, and develop cleaning and organizing content that serves key vertical monthly, quarterly, and yearly goals
- Contribute ideas to team brainstorms and pitch sessions
- Work across departments (namely our SEO, Creative, Growth, and Edit Ops teams), for any needs of the verticals and to support our overall site and company growth goals
- Attend industry and press events, as needed
Experience:
- 3-5 years of experience in digital media or publishing
- Subject-matter experience within the home/lifestyle realm
- A passion for cleaning and organizing
- Strong writing skills and voice, with the ability to speak to the reader like a friend
- Top-notch organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills
- Experience writing and editing how-to and service-driven content
- Stellar reporting, fact checking, and editing skills
- Ability to balance multiple priorities, adjust strategy and execution in the face of new information
- Experience in managing and editing multiple freelancers
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
- A team player with a desire to collaborate across teams
- Experience in web analytics: Google Analytics, Parse.ly, etc.
Salary: $70,000 - 75,000 annually
The above represents the expected salary range for this role. Ultimately, compensation is determined by level of experience, location, and other job-related factors.
