diagnostic images using state-of-the-art imaging technologies. This individual plays a critical role in patient care, supporting diagnostic accuracy and surgical planning through the delivery of precise ophthalmic imaging. Key Responsibilities:
- Retinal Imaging:
- Perform a full range of retinal imaging procedures including:
- Fundus photography (color, red-free, autofluorescence)
- Fluorescein angiography (FA)
- Indocyanine green angiography (ICG)
- Optical coherence tomography (OCT and OCT-A)
- Widefield and ultra-widefield imaging (e.g., Optos)
- External and slit lamp photography
- Patient Interaction:
- Prepare and educate patients for imaging procedures
- Obtain relevant medical and ocular history as needed
- Ensure patient comfort and safety during imaging sessions
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with the vitreoretinal surgeon to prioritize urgent cases and provide timely imaging
- Communicate effectively with the clinical team regarding patient status, imaging results, and workflow
- Image Management & Documentation:
- Upload, organize, and maintain image records in the electronic medical record (EMR) system
- Accurately label and annotate images according to protocol
- Ensure timely delivery of images for review by physicians
- Equipment Maintenance:
- Perform daily calibration and maintenance of all imaging equipment
- Troubleshoot basic technical issues and coordinate service when needed
- Compliance & Safety:
- Follow infection control and safety protocols
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA and clinic privacy standards
- Adhere to clinical guidelines for contrast agents during angiography
- Perform a full range of retinal imaging procedures including:
- Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 1-2 years of experience in ophthalmic imaging, preferably in a retina practice
- Proficiency with imaging platforms such as Heidelberg, Zeiss, Optos, Topcon, or equivalent
- Strong understanding of retinal anatomy and common vitreoretinal diseases
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a high-volume clinical setting
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Preferred:
- Certification by the Ophthalmic Photographers' Society (OPS)
- Certification by the International Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (IJCAHPO)
- Experience with EMR systems (e.g., NextGen, Epic, ModMed)
- BLS certification
- Fast-paced retina specialty clinic with frequent urgent cases
- Direct interaction with patients of all ages, often with significant visual impairment
- Standing and walking for extended periods; ability to lift imaging equipment as needed
- Exposure to low-light environments for image capture
- Full-time schedule, Monday through Friday; occasional extended hours based on patient needs
